From our friends and producers and growers at Onyx Coffee: Rogelio and family have been pioneers of coffee cultivation in the Dept. of Huehuetenango. These trees were originally planted by Don Hugo Chavez Mendez in a planting called “Villa Nueva” in 1955. The area of La Libertad is known for its sweet, hard beans and has won numerous awards nationally. Particularly, in 2016 La Libertad produced 4 of the top 20 farms in all of Guatemala in the internationally judged Cup of Excellence.
